Fishing to extinction - It is estimated that an extra 700 male and 1600 female Antipodean albatrosses are killed every year—on top of birds that die of natural causes. On Antipodes Island, there is now a severe population imbalance, with at least twice as many males as females. As that disparity has increased, male Antipodean albatrosses have begun courting and pairing up with each other.
