Hector’s dolphins (Cephalorynchus hectorii) live in tight family groups and rarely travel outside of their home ranges. They’ll hunt anything from small fish and squid to crustaceans. Their close proximity to the coast makes them extraordinarily vulnerable to human activity—fishing, boat traffic, and whatever we (or our cats) put in New Zealand’s streams and rivers.
