HOKI 05.TIF
Hoki Survey - Hoki ends up in fast-food burgers, supermarket freezers, and fish-and-chip shops around the country. It is New Zealand’s largest and most valuable fishery, with a total allowable commercial catch of 115,000 tonnes in 2019-2020, and export revenues in excess of $200 million a year. It’s also the most intensively monitored. NIWA is contracted by the government and the fishing industry to acoustically survey the hoki in Cook Strait, helping to determine where the quota is set.
