The government-set total allowable commercial catch of rock lobsters in Fiordland has doubled since a local group, the Fiordland Marine Guardians, implemented a conservation strategy in 2005 to sustainably manage Fiordland’s marine environment and fisheries. The daily bag limit for recreational fishers has also been increased—from three to six—in recognition of the health of Fiordland lobster stocks.
