SEA CHANGE 11.tif
Floyd Prendeville levers paua off a well-stocked reef on the southern coast of Chatham Island. In 2013, new regulations allowed Chatham Islands commercial divers to use underwater breathing apparatus such as scuba (elsewhere banned) for collecting paua and kina. Some have criticised the change, saying it allows divers to harvest beds that were previously beyond diving range, and thus served as population backstops.
