Wildlife veterinarian Emily Kay performs a necropsy on a sea lion pup in front of the historic boat shed at Enderby Island. This pup’s brain showed signs of the Klebsiella pneumonia infection that in previous years has killed hundreds of pups at Sandy Bay. Klebsiella appears to now be entrenched in the sea lion population and researchers are concerned it could lead to a repeat of the devastating epidemics seen here in 2002 and 2003.
