Fisherman Gary Homan.TIF
Taieri Mouth fisher Gary Homan well remembers the kelp forest that once grew here. Locals blame sediment and pollution pouring out of local rivers for its destruction. These days, boats can travel unimpeded up this stretch of the south Otago coast, but the loss of a once-flourishing kelp forest is a steep price to pay for easy navigation.
