Tarāpuka or Black-billed gull (Larus bulleri) roost on the water’s edge at Hannahs Bay, Lake Rotorua. New Zealand has only one endemic gull, the tarāpuka, and it’s more endangered than the takahē, the hoiho and all five species of kiwi.
