Today, tuna are one of the world’s most lucrative fish, netting US$40.8 billion globally in 2018, according to a report by United States-based policy research group the Pew Charitable Trusts. Tuna fisheries employ people in more than 70 countries, and sustain the economies of multiple Pacific Island nations.
