University of Auckland masters student Kerry Lukies checks nest boxes on Motuihe Island. Lukies’ work examines the effects of urban development on kororā in the Hauraki Gulf by studying penguin stress hormones and foraging patterns. Local kororā are under pressure as residential expansion encroaches on nesting habitat and disturbance by dogs and humans increases.
