Marineland in Napier was home to Kelly the last Dolphin held in Captivity in New Zealand.
When she was caught, December 13th 1974, Marineland was a New Zealand Icon, The major tourist drawcard for Napier City, It celebrated dolphins on all its signage, Welcoming tourists to the bay. Generations of visitors, Held cherished memories of a place where time had stood still. When Kelly died in September 2008, far outliving her life expectancy and society’s attitudes on captivity, so to did Marineland.
