MANTARAY 11.tif
Two summers spent hunting manta rays came to fruition in early 2022 for photographer Richard Robinson and researcher Mark Erdmann. This manta ray, a male with a wingspan of 4.9 metres, was photographed on January 12, 2002 north of Te Hauturu-o-Toi/Little Barrier Island. Erdmann attempted to tag it, but it was too quick and gave him the slip. The manta has been given an ID number, though—it’s NZ-MB-0056.
