Where the Buffalo Roam
Fairy prion.tif
A massive school of trevally skims the surface for krill, while a fairy prion keeps watch, in the right of the frame. Birds rely on trevally and other predator fish to drive krill and smaller fish up from the depth. Petrels and shearwaters usually associate with schooling fish such as trevally,
kahawai and kingfish, while black petrels are a sure sign of pseudorca- the two species are almost insepreable in the outer Hauraki Gulf.
