In 2019, for the first time, Rotorua’s annual A&P show was held over just one day—but the woodchopping events spanned the whole weekend. Timbersports remain a staple at A&P shows around the country despite decreased numbers of participants. In the 1960s and 1970s there were around 800 competitors in New Zealand, whereas now it’s down to around 300.
Shot on assignment for New Zealand Geographic Issue 159 September - October 2019.
