Darcell Apelu and her husband Charles Hall compete in the Double Hand Sawing at Puhoi. They are members of the Rotorua A&P Axemen’s Club, and compete around the country. In April, Apelu won the single and double saw titles at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, then in June, took home the inaugural Stihl Timbersports New Zealand Ladies Championship. Of Niuean and Pakeha descent, Apelu is also a widely exhibited artist and incorporates woodchopping into her work.
